“The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences.” Maria Montessori

Early Learning Curriculum Overview (3–5 years)
During this period, children become ‘independent explorers’ by developing their confidence and self-control, and own unique character.

Montessori Environment

The classroom is a ‘living room’ for children. It is filled with a rich variety of specially designed materials for the children to use in everyday learning areas – reading, writing, mathematics, science, geography, practical life, and sensorial development.

The abundance of materials makes it possible for the children to exercise more self-direction, and independent work, where they are given many more choices than is usually possible in a traditional classroom.

Over a period, the children develop into a ‘normalised community’ working with high concentration and few interruptions. We place a high value on the child’s growing ability to make constructive choices, exercise self-control, and work independently.

The first task a child learns when he or she comes to the classroom is that there is order in the classroom.

Our classroom uses an environment that covers several different, distinct areas where children learn concentration, order, sequence, and practical life skills.

At this stage the key concept in Montessori is the child’s interest and readiness for advanced work. Our goal is not to ensure that your children develop at a predetermined rate, but to ensure that whatever they do, they do well.

Uniform

Ladybird Manor Montessori Early Learning community supports the wearing of a ELC uniform as it promote a sense of belonging for children and create a positive identity for the ELC community.

The wearing of uniform also contributes to the personal safety of our children by allowing easier recognition of children outside our community.

Our uniform caters for the diverse nature of our growing population.

At Ladybird Manor children wear their much loved uniform with pride.
